Books like Rosa by Jonathan Rabb

Berlin, Germany, the last days of World War I. Detective Inspector Nikolai Hoffner, and his young assistant Hans Fichte, are tasked with investigating the murders of four women from the slums of Berlin. The victims, all with identical markings etched into their backs, are the prime suspects in a vicious serial killer's reign of terror. Hoffner and Fichte have spent six weeks trying to crack the case, but things take a troubling turn when the political police show an interest in Hoffner's investigation. Rosa Luxemburg, one of the leaders of the suppressed socialist uprising, is found dead, and rumors of her assassination by an angry mob abound. As Hoffner delves deeper into the case, he discovers that nothing is as it appears, and he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems. Hoffner's search for the killer leads him on a dark and twisted journey through the battle-scarred streets of the city, where he soon discovers that nothing is as it appears. As Hoffner's search for the truth leads him into unexpected alliances and confrontations with men who will stop at nothing to keep him from finding out the truth about Rosa's fate.
