Books like Midnight voices by John Saul

After the sudden death of her husband, Carolyn Evans finds herself alone in New York City, raising an eleven‑year‑old son and a twelve‑year‑old daughter on limited finances. She meets Anthony Fleming, a handsome and successful man who wins her heart and embraces her children. They move into Anthony’s spacious apartment on Central Park West, where Carolyn’s anxieties about the future are replaced by a hopeful sense of stability. However, the luxurious, exclusive building known as The Rockwell hides a darker reality. Carolyn’s daughter begins to have nightmares about strangers in her room, and her son insists that a neighbor’s recently deceased child is not truly dead but trapped somewhere within The Rockwell. When Carolyn uncovers a startling secret about Anthony’s past, she is forced to confront a creeping paranoia that threatens her family’s safety and her own sanity. The novel explores whether her perfect husband, her kindly fellow tenants, or an unseen force are responsible for the growing terror that now roosts in her home.
