Books like The charismatics by John MacArthur

The charismatic movement, once considered a splinter group on the fringe of Christianity, has gained steam and entered the '90s at full speed. Dramatic new accounts of bizarre, supernatural events are attracting men and women hungry for religious experiences while causing others simply to ask, "What is really happening here?" or more important, "What should I believe?" Known for addressing tough issues head-on and appealing to God's Word for solutions, John MacArthur in his newest book gives you a panoramic view of today's charismatic movement and its claims -- from the merely questionable to the downright astonishing. Charismatic Chaos thoughtfully and carefully shines the light of Scripture on teaching that is not only gaining a massive and loyal television following, but also leading to disunity on a worldwide scale and promising to fuel controversy for years to come. - Back cover.

John MacArthur warns that the Church’s compromise with modern culture—emphasizing numbers, show‑time religion, and marketing over the sovereign truth of the Gospel—threatens its influence and urges a return to bold, shame‑free preaching.

Modernism ruined most mainstream denominations during the twentieth century and yet, post-modernism poses an even greater threat to evangelical churches today. Truth, as presented in Scripture, is truth. MacArthur uses the tiny book of Jude to show that the truth of the Bible is worthy of our study and vigorous defense. Written primarily to preachers, this book provides evidence of the slipperiness of the teachings of the emergent church by quoting its leaders extensively. A book well worth reading for anyone serious about defending Christianity. Review by J.David Knepper at http://www.ahavabaptist.com/reviews/reviews.htm#war

One of the best written Christian books of the 20th century, this volume challenges the easy-believism of so much of American Christianity and focuses on what it really means to follow Jesus.
