Books like The book of Aron by Jim Shepard

"The Book of Aron" follows a young Jewish boy’s harrowing journey from the Polish countryside into the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. As his family loses its members, Aron and other children clandestinely trade food and supplies to keep their people alive, all while evading blackmailers, Jewish, Polish, and German police, and the ever‑present Gestapo. Aron’s story culminates with his arrival at Janusz Korczak’s renowned orphanage, where the devoted Polish-Jewish doctor, famed for protecting children’s rights, tries to shield the children from Nazi persecution. The narrative culminates in the somber transport of Korczak, staff, and children to Treblinka, leaving Aron’s fate—and his potential to witness and report the atrocities—uncertain. Set against the backdrop of the Holocaust, the book offers a youth’s perspective on survival, resistance, and the moral dilemmas faced under fascist tyranny in war‑torn Warsaw.
