Books like Of sound mind by Jean Ferris

Theo is a senior in a suburban high school who spends much of his day acting as the bridge between his blind parents and the world. Overwhelmed by the constant demands of interpreting, he grows resentful and starts to distance himself from those he loves. Hoping for a change, he meets Ivy, a new student with a deaf mother who shares his frustration of being pigeonholed into a role. As they grow closer, Ivy’s own perspective and sense of humor teach Theo that being a helper can also be an opportunity for mutual understanding and friendship, helping both to redefine what it means to truly listen and be heard.
