Stanislavski's legacy by 9370418|Konstantin Stanislavsky book cover

📘 Stanislavski's legacy

"For the first edition of Stanislavski's Legacy, Elizabeth Reynolds Hapgood, Stanislavski's friend and translator, gathered together writings from Stanislavski's later years, including many that were left behind following his death. These vignettes provide an ideal introduction to the essence of Stanislavski's work and also offer sparkling offhand glimpses into theatre history."--BOOK JACKET. "Among the additions to this expanded edition are a series of brilliant letters about the interpretation of Othello and "Memories of the Past ... Dreams of the Future," a complete new section in which Stanislavski speaks in various ways of his vision of the theatre and actors of the future."--BOOK JACKET.

Working on the play and the role by 12632655|Irina Levin book cover

📘 Working on the play and the role

"In order to create a living character on the stage, the actor needs more than masterful technique. He must work on the play in a way that will enable him to understand the meaning of each of the roles in it, and the nature of the relations between these roles. Stanislavsky developed his method of working on the play and the role over many years, but because it was constantly being modified and improved, only fragments of the method were ever recorded. Now Irina and Igor Levin have systematized the method, clearly setting forth its principles and demonstrating precisely how they are put to use. Using the complete text of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard and breaking it into individual "events," they take the reader through each situation in the play, exploring the motivations and feelings of the characters. The reader emerges with a fine understanding of the play and its roles, and with a method that can be used successfully to analyze any drama."--Jacket.

Stanislavsky in focus by 13841081|Sharon Marie Carnicke book cover

📘 Stanislavsky in focus

While Stanislavsky's name has dominated debates about acting for a century, his ideas have been viewed through pervasive veils of assumptions. In the West, actors routinely identify his System with Strasberg's Method and psychological realism. In Russia, Soviet Marxism limited Stanislavsky to the physical world and socialist realism. While illuminating some of the System's aspects (notably, realistic styles, Western notions of self, and logic), these assumptions have blurred others (drawn from Yoga, symbolism, and formalist attitudes towards texts).
