Books like A Touch of Forever by Janice Bennett

Lexie Anderson, a 24‑year‑old doctoral candidate, is haunted by a silver‑handled dagger and an engraved locket that stir memories of a forgotten childhood. In her quest to prove old manuscripts were forged, she unearths a hidden passageway from Wyndham Abbey to the sea, which inexplicably transports her thirty‑seven years into the past. Back in Regency England, Lexie confronts an unfamiliar reality: the Abbey is lit only by lanterns and candles, and the Earl of Wyndham is a vigorous, youthful man rather than the venerable aristocrat she had expected. While the era’s social mores seem rigid, Lexie’s modern sensibilities and outspoken views on gender relations elicit surprise and curiosity from those around her. Amid the turmoil of a pivotal moment in history, she and the Earl find each other and, in the midst of a love that defies time, Lexie must navigate the difficulties of belonging in two distinct centuries.
