Books like We think the world of you by J. R. Ackerley
We Think the World of You is a sharply observant social realist novel infused with subtle fantasy, sung by its author as an "adult fairy tale." It follows Frank, a middle‑aged civil servant, who is emotionally torn over his affection for Johnny, a married, working‑class youth. Johnny’s imprisonment for theft pulls Frank into conflict with Johnny’s wife and parents, whose focus shifts to the neglected German shepherd, Evie. In the end, Evie becomes an unlikely protector of Frank’s inner life.
