Books like Partition of India by J. B. P. More

This book offers a detailed examination of the causes and events that led to the Partition of India in 1947. Using authentic references and records, it traces the shifting demands of Muhammad Jinnah, the ambivalent stance of the Congress party, and the geopolitical calculations of the British Empire. The author critically evaluates existing interpretations, notably rejecting the 'bargaining counter' theory proposed by scholar Ayesha Jalal, and presents a case that the partition was driven by a complex mix of political, religious, and strategic considerations. The analysis extends to the impact on Muslims, Sikhs, and the post‑partition Indian state, arguing that those who were partitioned lost the most while the remaining Indian polity was weakened.
