Books like Kinesen by Henning Mankell

In Henning Mankell’s global thriller "Kinesen," Judge Birgitta Roslin is stunned when nineteen people are murdered in the Swedish village of Hesjovallen. The only clue—a red ribbon—leads her to an Andren family that has also been killed in Nevada. As Roslin delves deeper, she discovers a nineteenth‑century diary of an Andren ancestor who was a gang master on the American transcontinental railway and who describes the brutal treatment of Chinese slave workers. The case forces her to investigate into the highest echelons of power in Beijing and to travel to Zimbabwe and Mozambique, while the narrative flashes back 150 years to the slave trade between China and the United States. Through this complex investigation, Roslin confronts a convoluted truth that re‑examines the origins of the massacre and the legacy of transnational crime.
