Books like Fleisch ist mein Gemüse by Heinz Strunk

In "Fleisch ist mein Gemüse," Heinz Strunk candidly chronicles his formative years in Harburg, a suburb of Hamburg, during the mid‑1980s. At just 18 he still wrestles with acne, no steady job, and a lack of romantic relationships. The autobiographical narrative then follows his transition into a frontline trumpeter for the popular showband Tiffanys, which gained renown at the regional Schützenfeste in the area between the River Elbe and the Lüneburg Heath. Strunk reflects on the highs of performance and the darker aspects of the music scene—sedate guest performers, bleak romantic encounters, indulgent meals, and wedding celebrations monopolized by a single song, “An der Nordseeküste” by Klaus und Klaus. A frank, humorously self‑deprecating look at adolescence, music culture, and the contradictions of youth life, the book offers readers a vivid portrait of German youth in the 1980s and 1990s.
