Books like Settling accounts by Harry Turtledove

Settling accounts is a historical fiction novel that blends the familiar backdrop of the American Civil War era with the unconventional narrative of World War II. The author, Harry Turtledove, uses alternate histories to explore the consequences of events that have been reshaped in the past. The book opens with the North facing various conflicts from the perspective of 1939-1945, including Confederate attacks on northern cities, Canadian insurgents, and a Japanese assault on the Hawaiian islands. The South is depicted as dealing with the forced construction of concentration camps for ex-slaves. The protagonist, Franklin Roosevelt, finds himself facing different challenges and power struggles as he tries to rebuild the nation after the war. The novel weaves these alternate histories with the familiar narrative of the American Civil War, adding an element of humor and fantasy to the otherwise realist backdrop.
