Books like Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

At seven years old, Libby Day witnesses the brutal murder of her mother and two sisters at the family farm. Her older brother, Ben, is convicted of the crime and sent to prison for life. The years following the tragedy leave Libby disconnected from friends, work, and even her own memories. Two and a half decades later, a group of people who believe Ben was wrongfully accused reaches out to her, persuading her to confront the event that has haunted her for so long. As Libby questions whether the voice she heard that night was truly her brother’s and whether the small town’s perception of Ben’s character masks a darker truth, author Gillian Flynn weaves her detective’s present investigation with evocative flashbacks of the fateful night. Written with sharp prose, Dark Places explores how memory can be deceptive and how a child’s self‑justification can be a painful shield against trauma.
