Books like Hell to pay by George P. Pelecanos

Derek Strange and Terry Quinn, a well‑known pair of former police officers turned private investigators, are hired to find a teenage girl who has run away from her suburban home and is now working as a prostitute in Washington, D.C. Their experience with the city’s dangers is put to the ultimate test when they encounter Worldwide Wilson, a dangerous pimp who controls the area they are investigating. The case forces the team to navigate the city’s hidden crime syndicates, test their loyalty to one another, and confront the realities of racism, burglary and poverty that plagues the inner city. As the investigation reaches critical stakes, Strange and Quinn’s tenacity and street smarts become the only weapon against the organized crime that threatens the girl’s life. The novel blends gritty hard‑boiled detective tropes with a sobering look at teenage prostitution, political corruption and the socioeconomic divides of Washington, D.C., offering readers a tense and socially relevant mystery.
