Books like Resentment by Gary Indiana

Gary Indiana’s “Resentment” opens with a graphic double murder that launches a satirical exploration of New York society and a murder trial that feels as whimsical as a Carroll dream. The narrative follows a cast of eccentric characters—a disillusioned journalist, a hit‑hunting radio DJ, a stalking victim and her celebrity husband, an AIDS‑stricken taxi driver, and a burnt‑out soap‑opera actress with a troubled son—whose lives intersect amid a courtroom spectacle that exposes the grotesque underbelly of urban life. The novel blends social critique, dark humor, and a surreal vision of self‑destruction, revealing how resentment fuels ambition, love, and violence. Themes of social satire, crime, and the spectacle of justice unfold across the city’s boulevards and freeways, painting a vivid picture of the grotesque, the profound, and the absurd.
