Books like Holiday in a coma by Frédéric Beigbeder

In the first volume, ‘Holiday in a Coma’, Marc Marronier is whisked away by an American DJ to the premiere of a new club called The Shitter, a playful nod to Paris’s famed Bains Douche. Over one wild night he observes the city’s elite—bouncers, drugs, cocktails, and aspiring models—while attempting to seduce a catwalk star. The narrative distills a catalogue of decadence and excess, highlighting the protagonist’s conflicted affection for this world. The sequel, ‘Love Lasts Three Years’, confronts Marc’s recent divorce. Driven by his belief that love endures no longer than three years, he writes a memoir interlaced with anecdotes from his marriage, brash nightclubs, vainglorious offices, and soulless designer apartments. The tone oscillates between tender reflection and biting sarcasm, underscored by Beigbeder’s trademark wit. Together, the books expose the fragile lines between desire, ambition, and the pursuit of meaning amid Paris’s glittering but alarming nightlife.
