Books like Slow Freight by F. M. Busby

F. M. Busby’s *Slow Freight* introduces Rance Collier, one of Earth's early space pioneers, aboard the *Starfinder* during its first maiden voyage. The mission quickly turns chaotic as the ship encounters a nonhuman vessel; the ensuing collision damages both crafts and forces a desperate exchange of matter and energy with the nearest star system, Sol. Before humanity can mount a response, the alien ship initiates a planet‑swallowing course that devours several of Saturn's moons and heads straight for Earth. The novel blends space travel, political intrigue, and existential cosmic danger in a tight, suspenseful narrative. Set in a future where human exploration of spacetime is possible, *Slow Freight* explores the limits of technology, the tensions of interstellar politics, and the fragility of planetary systems in the face of unknown alien forces. The first installment of the "Slow Freight" series, the book plants the stakes for a saga that follows Earth’s struggle against cosmic predators and the ethical dilemmas of space colonization.
