Books like Light Fell by Evan Fallenberg
Joseph Talbot abandoned his life in a devout Israeli farming community two decades ago, falling in love with the brilliant Rabbi Yoel Rosenzweig. Although their affair ended, the ripple effects continue to shape Joseph, his wife Rebecca, and their five sons.
For his fiftieth birthday Joseph invites his estranged sons and an unexpected daughter‑in‑law to a Tel Aviv penthouse that he shares with a man who is away that weekend. The sisters and sons arrive with divergent faiths—some deeply religious, others wholly secular—each carrying a mixture of resentment, acceptance, and longing for their father. The family must face their past selves and contemplate what could still be.
Evan Fallenberg, an American writer who has lived in Israel since 1985, brings a nuanced view of Jewish, LGBTQ, and family life to this collection of interwoven stories, prompting readers to consider the complexity of love, faith, and reconciliation.
