Books like Two crosses by Elizabeth Musser

In late 1961, as Algeria's war for independence from France is coming to a close, two crosses, symbolic of another time in history, draw together a host of characters in an unforgettable story of love and war, revenge and forgiveness. When Gabriella Madison arrives in the sleepy southern French village of Castelnau to study in an exchange program, her plans don't include falling in love with her cynical young professor, David Hoffman. Nor does she plan to become an unwitting accomplice in his involvement in the Algerian War. And she certainly doesn't expect to face a part of her past that calls into question all her theories about faith and forgiveness. Far from home and caught up in a dangerous web of intrigue, Gabriella Madison discovers that she has a lot to learn about David, about forgiveness, about love. - Back cover.
