Books like Voodoo moon by Edward Gorman

When a series of murders in Brenner, Iowa, takes on eerie voodoo overtones, a local teenager is accused of the crimes. Recognizing the complexity of the case, profiler Robert Payne travels to the small town to collaborate with investigators. With his expertise in criminal psychology, Payne seeks to untangle the clues and uncover the true perpetrator. Payne’s arrival introduces a clash of perspectives, as he challenges local authorities’ assumptions and brings a fresh lens to the investigation. The novel follows both the professional dynamics among law enforcement and the community’s reaction to the unsettling serial murders, while exploring themes of faith, justice, and the limits of psychological profiling. Set against the backdrop of Iowa’s rural landscape, "Voodoo Moon" blends atmospheric tension with an examination of how folklore and ritual can influence modern crime. Payne’s efforts to link behavioral patterns to the murders ultimately bring insight but also deeper questions about the nature of guilt.
