Books like The Lost Continent by Edgar Rice Burroughs
Set in the year 2137, long after the Great War of 1914‑1918, the United States has historically avoided involvement beyond 30 degrees latitude with its "East for the East…West for the West" principle. One storm‑hit day, the U.S. aero‑submarine *Coldwater*, commanded by Lieutenant Jefferson Turck, is blown past this boundary and forced to land on European soil. There, instead of an enemy reminiscent of the 20th‑century conflict, the crew faces an entirely different menace—a mystery preserved from the original 1915 publication, *Beyond 30*.
First publish date: 1916
Genre: Science Fiction/Military Science Fiction
