Books like Something red by Douglas Nicholas

During the 13th‑century coldest winter in living memory, an Irishwoman named Molly leads a band of travelers across northwest England’s Pennines in three wagons. With her enigmatic lover Jack, fey granddaughter Nemain, and apprentice Hob, they face roving dangers in the forests they must cross. As they move from refuge to refuge, the group learns that the threat they stalk is far more malignant than expected, and the journey forces Hob to discover the deeper history of his adopted family. The novel blends historical detail with fantasy elements such as shapeshifters, sorcery, and a menacing woodland presence. Set against a backdrop of harsh winter, medieval England, and cultural incursions from the Templars and other groups, the story weaves a central mystery through snowy passes, tangled forest twilight, and encounters with various traveling peoples.
