Books like The king by Donald Barthelme
Donald Barthelme’s *The king* intertwines the classic tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table with the grim realities of World War II. Dunkirk has fallen, the United States has yet to enter the conflict, and the British leadership—figures like Churchill—frequently misjudge the situation. Barthelme retells Thomas Malory’s *Le Morte d'Arthur* through the eyes of the knights as they confront both ancient threats and modern warfare, delivering a mix of humor, satire, and gothic romance.
