On the ruined world of the Taurus Reach, Starfleet Intelligence officer Cervantes Quinn discovers an ancient Shedai conduit, only to learn that the Klingons have already found it and are dispatching an army to seize it. Far from the ruin, Vulcan’s reporter Tim Pennington receives a cryptic call for help and partners with the outlaw T'Prynn, a woman who once sabotaged his career and now evades justice. Meanwhile, former Starbase 47 commander Diego Reyes, presumed dead, is a captive aboard a Klingon starship, and he knows the only reason for his survival lies with the enigmatic Councilor Gorkon. The fates of these three protagonists—and the balance of the great powers—are bound together by the mysterious Mirdonyae artifact. If Doctor Carol Marcus and Ming Xiong cannot unlock its secrets in time, the outcome could be catastrophic.
