Books like On what grounds by Cleo Coyle
Ten years after leaving an unhappy marriage and a beloved job, Clare Cosi returns to her former role as manager of the Village Blend, a historic coffeehouse in Greenwich Village. The first morning back, she discovers her young assistant manager unconscious, coffee grounds scattered, and a strange mess that hints at foul play. Though Detective Mike Quinn dismisses it as an accident, Clare senses deeper questions—why was the trash bin misplaced? Is anyone else in danger? With her knowledge of the coffeehouse and its people, Clare feels compelled to investigate further, confronting not only the mystery at hand but her own past and the quiet life she left behind.
Set against the backdrop of New York’s coffee culture, this mystery explores the intersections of craft coffee, small business, and the subtle complexities of human relationships, all seen through the eyes of a woman returning to her roots.
