Books like Lost Boy by Christina Henry

In Christina Henry’s imaginative retelling, the island of Never‑Never Land shelters Peter Pan and his band of merry lost boys, beings who supposedly live forever. Yet some, including Jamie—Peter’s first recruit—grow older under mysterious circumstances. Jamie, who has lived on the island longer than any other boy, often assumes the caretaker role, tending to the boys when Peter’s gaze turns elsewhere. He takes responsibility for a young boy Peter strips away from the island, defending him against the unpredictable demands of Peter’s seemingly limitless power. Henry’s narrative casts a moral light on the dynamics of friendship and authority, as Jamie’s empathy and vigilance contrast sharply with Peter’s ruthless way of warding off change. Through this retelling, readers witness a darker twist on the classic tale, offering a closer examination of Peter’s character and the fragile bonds that bind the lost boys together.
