Books like Non-Stop by Brian W. Aldiss

In Brian W. Aldiss’s *Non‑Stop*, Roy Complain lives in a primitive tribe that fears curiosity. When his wife is kidnapped, a tribal priest convinces him to join an expedition into the overgrown corridors of their world—corridors that are, in fact, the interior of a colossal starship. As the group traverses these living passageways, they encounter other tribes of differing sophistication and briefly meet legendary humanoid giants. Their journey leads them to the ‘Forwards’, a more advanced society that reveals the ship’s true purpose: a multi‑generational vessel returning from Procyon. A century‑old pandemic, caused by an alien amino acid, fractured the ship’s governance and knowledge, and 23 generations after the catastrophe, the crew’s understanding of the ship’s mission has been almost entirely lost. Complain’s discoveries force him—and the readers—to rethink the nature of civilization, exploration, and the universe in which they dwell.
