Books like Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

Elantris was once a city of radiant, godlike beings blessed by the magic of Shaod, yet ten years ago that blessing turned into a curse, leaving its inhabitants feeble and the city itself dark and decaying. In Arelon's new capital, Kae, Princess Sarene of Teod arrives for a state marriage with Crown Prince Raoden, only to discover that he has died—yet she is not yet aware that he was secretly taken to the ruined city and imprisoned by the very affliction that destroyed the Elantrians. Both Teod and its ally Arelon face the imperial ambitions of Fjordell, a city ruled by the zealous high priest Hrathen, who seeks to conquer and convert Arelon to his god. As Sarene stands alone against this threat, the hidden struggle of Prince Raoden within Elantris begins to reshape the fate of the empire and reveals the true nature of the once-sacred city.
