Books like From the corner of the oval by Beck Dorey-Stein

Beck Dorey‑Stein, after a humble start in Washington, DC, unexpectedly secured a position as a stenographer for President Barack Obama through a Craigslist posting. Over five years she worked alongside the president, sharing in the rhythm of White House life—from advance teams to speechwriters, photographers, and press secretaries. Her daily routine involved recording council meetings, capturing speeches, and traveling on Air Force One, where she formed close bonds with fellow staffers who had left their ordinary lives behind. Within this high‑profile environment, Beck navigated both professional responsibilities and personal entanglements, including a romantic connection with a senior aide. The memoir offers an intimate portrait of the inner workings of the White House, the camaraderie among the staff, and Dorey‑Stein’s own evolution from a newcomer to a confident writer who ultimately discovers her voice.
