Books like The Other Face by Barbara Constance Freeman

In the line of distinctive Dovewood family faces, another face occasionally appears. Betony has that other face and unlocks its mystery when she finds a miniature china cottage. The Dovewood family has a tradition that only the Dovewood children are allowed to be featured on their portraits, but when Betony’s portrait is destroyed, her parents decide to add her to the family portrait. Betony is left with a small china cottage as proof of her presence. Her father, Mr. Dovewood, decides to create a miniature china cottage of his own to add to the family portrait, but when he notices that Betony’s cottage is the only one missing, he realizes that the cottage is not a mere copy, but a unique object with a story of its own. The cottage is revealed to be the home of a mythical race of beings that have been living in Dovewood for centuries. Betony’s cottage is not a duplicate, but a miniature replica of the home of the Dovewood family’s mythical race of beings, which has been hiding in plain sight for generations.
