Books like Orley Farm by Anthony Trollope

When Joseph Mason of Groby Park dies, his will leaves his estate to his family, but a codicil written by his second wife and infant son gives Orley Farm to the younger wife. A contested court case confirms the codicil, and twenty years later Lady Mason lives at Orley Farm with her son Lucius. Lucius attempts to modernise farming and evicts tenant Samuel Dockwrath, who learns of a forged second deed and tracks the original witnesses to Groby Park. He persuades Mason’s son to prosecute Lady Mason for forgery, but the case fails. Provoked by conscience, Lady Mason privately confesses the forgery and relinquishes the estate. Alongside this legal drama, several intertwined subplots unfold: a budding romance between barrister Felix Graham and Judge Stavely’s daughter, engagements and jealousy among the Staveley and Furnival families, and Sir Peregrine Orme’s fleeting affection for Lady Mason. These relationships paint a portrait of England’s domestic life, manners, and social customs.
