Books like A faraway island by Annika Thor

In the summer of 1939, 12‑year‑old Stephie Steiner and her 8‑year‑old sister Nellie are sent from Vienna to Sweden to escape the Nazis. Their plan is to stay for six months while their parents flee to Amsterdam, after which all four will head to America. Instead, the sisters remain on a rugged island off the western coast of Sweden. Nellie quickly embraces her new surroundings, adopting the Swedish language and aligning herself with her foster family. Stephie, however, struggles to adjust; she feels isolated and worried about her parents, fearing she may never see them again. Each sister faces the reality of uncertainty and the challenge of adapting to a harsh environment while holding onto hope for reunion. The story follows their growing resilience and the emotional complexities of sibling bonds during a period of war, illustrating the hardships and small triumphs of displacement and refuge.
