Books like Pegasus in Flight by Anne McCaffrey

In a world where people with psychic gifts, called Talents, are essential to society—from security to space exploration—Rhyssa Owen, the director of the Jerhattan Parapsychic Center, oversees a growing list of extraordinary abilities. She coordinates assignments for these gifted individuals while juggling a looming demand for kinetic talents to staff the Helios space platform, humanity’s next‑step into the stars. Amid her busy schedule, she encounters the lives of two young Talented children: six‑year‑old Tirla, who uses her linguistic skill to survive in the Linear developments, and Peter, a paralyzed boy who dreams of space where gravity would no longer hinder him. Their needs remind Rhyssa of the vulnerability and responsibility tied to mental powers. When a man with no measurable Talent enters her life, Rhyssa confronts doubts about her assumptions regarding psychic abilities. Compounding her uncertainty, two Talented children reveal unusual and unexpected powers that force her to reassess the extent and future of Talentkind. The novel explores the role of gifted individuals in a complex society and the implications of unanticipated abilities.
