Books like Obit by Anne Emery

When a newspaper obituary in New York reads like a coded record of his own life, Declan Burke, a former IRA operative living under a quiet New York identity, realizes his past may still be hunting him. Declan consults an attorney, but decides to keep his old affiliations hidden. The tension escalates with gunfire at a family wedding, the arrival of Leo Killeen—former commanding officer in Dublin—and the discovery of a body in a Brooklyn flat. As more enemies surface—a grudging woman, a shady Irish artefact importer, a nightclub owner tied to the mob, a sultry chanteuse, and his hot‑headed son Francis—Declan confronts the possibility that an unseen hand has been orchestrating events to draw him out. The novel weaves a suspenseful tale of family, loyalty, and the enduring shadows of past violence in the heart of New York.
