Books like The man who tried to save the world by Anderson, Scott

Fred Cuny devoted his life to saving people in some of the world’s most dangerous places— war‑torn countries, earthquake‑hit regions, famine areas, and hurricane‑devastated communities. His bravery earned him the nickname “Master of Disaster.” As his globe‑trotting adventures grew more daring, questions arose about his motives, whether he was a thrill‑seeker, a CIA operative, or a genuine humanitarian. After twenty‑five years of humanitarian work, Cuny attempted to intervene in the brutal war in Chechnya. The conflict pitted a rogue Russian republic’s forces against a chaotic army, creating a landscape where betrayal and murder were rampant. Cuny’s initial mission failed, yet he returned on a secret assignment. He vanished while headed for a rebel fortress under intense artillery bombardment. War correspondent Scott Anderson, obsessed by Cuny’s disappearance, entered the war zone to investigate. He sought answers about Cuny’s employer, the circumstances of his disappearance, and the nature of a man who believed he could “save the world.”
