Books like Night Shift by Alex Finlay

The novel opens on New Year’s Eve 1999, when the world expects a Y2K disaster that never materializes. Meanwhile, in a Blockbuster Video in Linden, New Jersey, four teenage girls working the night shift are brutally attacked, with only one survivor. The police quickly identify a suspect who flees and is never seen again. Fifteen years later, a similar massacre occurs at an ice‑cream shop in the same town—four teenage employees are attacked and only one survives. Both victims recall the killer’s chilling final words: “Goodnight, pretty girl.” The story follows three protagonists: the original survivor forced to relive her trauma; the brother of the original suspect, convinced the police are wrong; and an FBI agent determined to solve both cases. As their paths intersect, the truth behind the murders threatens to upend their lives, and not everyone will survive the investigation. A tense thriller that examines the lasting impact of trauma and the possibility of redemption.
