Books like Mr. Eternity by Aaron Thier

Set in Key West in 2016 as sea levels rise and coral reefs die, the novel follows two young independent filmmakers who discover an enigmatic sailor known as Daniel Defoe, who insists he has lived for five hundred and sixty years. Their story unfurls over a millennium, beginning in 1560 with Spanish forces decimating Aztec and Inca societies in the Viceroyalty of New Granada, and moving forward to 2500, where the Atlantic coast is submerged, the United States has dissolved, and technology such as cars, plastics, and air conditioning have become relics. Throughout the centuries, Defoe—who grows into a symbol of endurance and adaptability—serves various roles, including advisor to the King of St. Louis in the Democratic Federation of Mississippi States. The narrative examines the relentless forces of climate change and environmental degradation while highlighting enduring constants such as love, humor, and the human desire for a better life. Mr. Eternity blends adventure, humor, and speculative fiction into a genre‑bending page‑turner that compels readers to contemplate the future of our planet and what makes history repeat itself.
