Pauline E.. Hopkins (February 24, 1859 – September 1, 1930) was an African American author, journalist, and social activist born in Portland, Maine. She was a pioneering figure in American literature, known for her efforts to uplift and represent African American voices during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
